You know that we’re presenting “(A Slice of) A You know that we’re presenting “(A Slice of) ADVENTURE PIZZA” as a part of La Mama’s Puppet Slam, February 16-19(tix in biooo). But did you know that it features FIVE NEW SONGS BY UNCLE MONSTERFACE?

Technically the first new songs in…too many years to count. Yeesh. Been busy making cartoons and other weird stuff.

It’s all still very “work-in-progress,” but a lean little Uncle Monsterface has created several new songs for the piece. Several premiered in 2020, but others are new or else didn’t appear in the last version because THEY WEREN’T CHOSEN.

In fairness and because we only have two sets of hands and we’re at a puppet show, these will all be pre-recorded demos for now, but the dream is to some day present the show with a full band.

Please come on out and let us know what you think!

We're so grateful to share a brand new Santa song We're so grateful to share a brand new Santa song that Uncle Monsterface collaborated with some super-friends on:

“Never Stop Believing In Santa Claus!”
By Jocelyn Mackenzie , Stan Satlin, and Uncle Monsterface
Here is the video:

SPOTIFY, APPLE MUSIC, ALL STREAMING SITES:
https://righteousbabe.ffm.to/neverstopbelievinginsantaclaus

It was a deeply collaborative writing process. The final result features long-time Monsterface All-star and bestie Cosmic Jocelyn crushing the vocals with 'Paradise' Dan playing literally every instrument. Marty also did the ultra-weird animation in the video as one of his first big animation experiments with Jocelyn stepping in for the awesome text treatment to build a lyric-video so that you can sing along!

We're truly honored to be l part of the team that brought this wonderful song to life!

SPEAKING OF JOCELYN! She has an amazing new album coming out on Jan 29th on Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records ! It’s called PUSH, and it is a phenomenal work of art. Insider tip: 'Paradise' Dan recorded all of the vocals on this glorious work. It’s arranged by an overwhelming bounty of amazing humans for string quartet, and it will fill you with feelings.
Pre-order it here! https://righteousbabe.ffm.to/push

HAPPY SPOOKI DAE! In addition to celebrating cand HAPPY SPOOKI DAE! In addition to celebrating candy and our favorite Spooki drummer/bassist/designer/collaborator/super-friend, Spooki Old Epic Swanson, we'd like to make a Halloween recommendation from our catalog of wonders:
THE ZOMBIE
https://open.spotify.com/track/1uSxkYhiDvzAoww5IGQMYE

This particular incredible illustration is by our frequent collaborator and longtime bestie, infehinite design! They are incredible!

From "Rise of the Lava Men," 'The Zombie' is a beloved deep cut. It tells the tale of a a post-apocalyptic mayor who builds a refuge, a raised platform to keep his city and citizens safe from the zombie horde. It works, but alas, he is compelled to see more of this world, and craves the perspective of the so-called "other side." Will his hunger for a new way to see transition into a hunger for brains? Probably yes, yes it will.

This song features so much fun, but the most notable performance has to be Marty and Harlan as the moaning mass of zombies.

C'mon, it's too easy to rec "Mashed Potato vs Vampire," but you should push that jam out, too.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM MONSTERFACE INDUSTRIES! PLAY IT SAFE, HAVE FUN!

A few years ago, Monsterface Industries switched gears and made an ambitious pilot about a vampire who aspires to be a Youtube star and lives with a dinosaur and a robot. It was a labor of spooky love, and a deep collaboration with and among many powerful and mighty Monsterface Industries alums.

Come for the vampire, stay for the love. And the trip to everyone’s favorite store for hobbyists of all ilk and breed: LOVECRAFT’s.

Vampire Boy fun facts:

- In fullest circle, “Sports Robot” is one of the erstwhile members of the titular superhero subjects of Uncle Monsterface’s most “recent” full album, “Rise of the Lava Men”.
https://unclemonsterface.bandcamp.com/track/the-sports-robot

-“Sports Robot” himself was first conceived as a piece of Spoken word performance delivered by Marty as a wee little artist in the gloriously nurturing arms of the Studio for Interrelated Media Majors Studio.

- Monsterface’s Marty is the voice of the Piratesaurous Rex, and Hidden Harlan is the voice of Sports Robot, and their dynamic is based off of a jokey riff they still fall into which involves what is likely an even better concept - Quint from Jaws and a DALEK as roommates and unlikely friends.

-Speaking of Quint, Vampire Boy himself is voiced by the unstoppable Kyle McCoy , who Marty met when he performed in Kyle’s “Jaws: The Musical” !

- Monsterface bestie Georg Pedersen was the lead animator and designer for this unique work. He took Marty’s doodles and made them both beautiful, and talk. Moreover, he’s the nicest person you’ll ever meet.

- Sports Robot’s noteworthy catch-phrase “I LOVE THE BUS!” Is lifted from Marty’s real-life day job, which often involves singing “Wheels On The Bus” to infants and toddlers. He nearly always punctuates every performance of it with Sports Robot’s declaration.

Greetings, Team: In case you needed it and in hono Greetings, Team:
In case you needed it and in honor of the impending autumn, Uncle Monsterface’s last studio album, “Rise of the Lava Men,” is now available on all streaming places.
https://open.spotify.com/album/2JBA1UG1Zco3vi0SlvdGMX

And that about brings us up to date on the Monsterface Streaming Situation. There’s still more stuff and deeper cuts on our Bandcamp, which sends us much more money and supports awesome causes. But we get it, the kids love their streams.

And now for the profound revelations to be found in Monsterface Fun Facts:

-“Rise” features a whole other amazing lineup for Uncle Monsterface:
Hidden Harlan Muir providing keyboards, vocals, horns and horn arrangements. AND, not to be outdone, Spooki Old Epic Swanson on drums and vox and as our lead designer. These humans are great. And Marty and Dan!

-“Rise” was imagined as a Saturday Morning cartoon that never happened, set on Uncle Monsterface’s home base of Dino-skeleton Island. In that interest, with the help of our awesome friends from InfEhnite Design, we built GI Joe style “Battle Bio Cards” for every character. Check some out on Youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9fM1LZ-wR9Dst_LrjlgYht6FG55VQVwx

-“Rise” was somehow our last full studio recording.

-“Rise” features phenomenal guest stars. “Cosmic” @jocelynmcknz channels the powers of whole Volcanoes as she sings on many of the songs. She’s particularly proud of the entire cheerleading squad she created for “Sports Robot.” Jocelyn can also often be found supporting us as our live drummer and styling us with her all-powerful mind. What can’t she do? Nuthin. Follow her, as she’s about to drop a universe-changing album.

-And another of our favorite artists and humans ever, @cornmo is featured on several songs. If you don’t know who Corn Mo is, stop what you are doing, and go listen to his banshee wail of freedom sing you some of the greatest songs mankind has ever dared feel course through its collective veins..

-“Rise” was funded by a crazy Kickstarter, and there is one final reward we have yet to make good on… some songs... hmmmmm....
We interrupt this steady trickle of musical histor We interrupt this steady trickle of musical history with a sock puppet soap opera!

https://youtu.be/2a7S1KzP3H8

Around the time we were working on Jokey Jingles, Monsterface Industries also started production on a Sock Puppet Soap Opera called Sock Puppet Manor! While we scripted a full “season”, we only aired three full episodes, but they are very strange and impressive.
We’re going to go out on a limb and just recommend that you jump right into episode 3, since it’s pretty hard to make sense of any of it anyhow, and the recaps are half the fun. Of course, for the completionists, go right ahead and jump back to episode 1.

Are you ready for your Monsterface Monday Fun Facts? (You will be quizzed) -Much like “Like A Prayer,” all of Sock Puppet Manor was filmed in our first Brooklyn home where all of Uncle Monsterface lived, the legendary giant loft, Taaffe Hall, all shot on an elevated set we built. -When we do bigger Monsterface Industries productions, we wear lots of different hats and get helps from lots of mighty Team Members. Jimmy heroically performed many many other characters and was the lead set designer. Dan ably directed each episode and did all the cool sound design. Marty was the lead writer, puppet builder, performed several puppets, and edited the series. And a wild array of wonderfully talented friends volunteered as the rest of the cast including spooki Old Eric as Bob, Katie Brennan as Hyacinth, Rebecca Caranay as Penelope, and Kay Merryweather as Lillith. -All of the puppet cast came from @martystuff ‘s Sock Puppet Portraits, and they were all photographed as his fifth full series of characters (Series 3.5 for the real record keepers). Lillith Lollybottom went on to become one of the most successful portraits ever made, there are thousands of artfully framed pictures of her throughout the world. - Somewhere around here, there are still three full scenes that we shot but we did not edit. There’s a harrowing rooftop scene, a ghostly bar scene, and a hospital scene featuring Dr. Vampire and Coma Ted. Like a weird vestigial tail of sock puppets, some of this can still be seen in the opening credits.

Howdy Team, After ‘This Is An Adventure,’ we r Howdy Team,
After ‘This Is An Adventure,’ we released an EP of cover songs called “Jokey Jingles.”
In its honor, we’ve re-released our ridiculous video for ‘Like A Prayer’ to Youtube:

https://youtu.be/w9_gfP9eXlk

We’ve decided to keep 'Jokey Jingles' exclusive to Bandcamp because of the cost of licensing cover songs across streaming platforms.

You can listen to the full album always and forever here on Bandcamp and download it FOR FREE.
https://unclemonsterface.bandcamp.com/album/jokey-jingles

And now for the moment you’ve hotly anticipated, ‘Jokey Jingles’ Monster Fun Facts! -We wanted to feature covers of songs that represented the weird breadth of our musical influences, so there is a curated mix of over-the-top pop and deeper artistic influences – from Britney Spears to The Residents. Other bands we considered were: Primus, Rush, They Might Be Giants, and The Dead Milkmen. Maybe we’re due for another set of covers? -There is no such thing as Volumes 1-2, we thought it was funny. -Like A Prayer’ was a staple of our set for many years, typically culminating in the thrilling sight of Uncle Monsterface dressed as The Pope. We performed this song for a long time before recording it. -All of the green-screening and compositing was ably executed by Perfect Jimmy, and took place in our original Brooklyn home, Taaffe Hall, where we had a giant green screen painted on the living room wall. -A few of the shots in our 'Like A Prayer' video are taken right from the original Madonna video -The name of ‘Jokey Jingles’ is lifted from an article written by the sadly-defunct Boston Phoenix about Marty’s Song-a-day project from 2006. Marty’s Song-a-day provided the seeds for many of our early songs. -‘Jokey Jingles’ was our last recording with beloved Uncle Monsterface co-founder Perfect Jimmy! We think he went out in style. His influence on Uncle Monsterface is in the band’s DNA forevermore.

And that’s that, mutants and weirdos. While there’s a very good chance we’ll occasionally circle back around to some of these older tunes, for now we’re moving forward, and next up we’ll be moving toward the Modern Era of Uncle Monsterface, so get your Lava Men gear!
Hi Team Monsterface, Time now resembles several pu Hi Team Monsterface,
Time now resembles several puddles of inter-dimensional pudding! As we scurry ever-forward through this swirly fog, let us pause to re-hash another song or two from our dear album, "This Is An Adventure.” https://open.spotify.com/track/5LIUOd0Lw0j8DK7wmCmDMZ "Heart” is a song that is…well…close to our blood-filled hearts. Not least of all because it is our first recording to feature our unstoppably-talented long-time collaborator and frequent bandmate, Cosmic Jocelyn Mackenzie.

If you don’t know who Jocelyn is, stop what you’re doing and go listen to her solo music. It's stunning. Her voice is a call to our deepest heart, which is most appropriate in this song.

We’ve gone on to collaborate with Jocelyn time and again, you hear her featured in many songs on “...Adventure,” notably again on the deep cut “Regular Dae,” singing the legendary closing refrain "DINOSAUR ROBOT PANTS!" https://open.spotify.com/track/73Pi5JDGj9EYE1AFpWuHe4
She’s since performed with us as on many other recordings, rocked out live with us as our magic-making live drummer, and when we’re quite lucky, made us look like superhero astronauts as our band stylist. So many talents! More collaborations to come!
Not for nuthin, “Heart” is also a nod to one of our favorite bands ever, Ed in the Refridgerators, and their incredible song “Heart of Blood.” Once again, if you haven’t listened to Ed, stop what you’re doing and do that.

In 2008, Uncle Monsterface hit the road in support In 2008, Uncle Monsterface hit the road in support of “This Is An Adventure” with The Unlimited Enthusiasm Tour. We were on the road with some of the best people on this planet, putting up shows that resembled the summer camp of a sugar-high eighties cartoon show protagonist’s dreams.

Here’s a wonderful photo booth record of some of those super-friends: Harry and the Potters, Math the Band, and iji. Not pictured is the equally sensational magic man Jason Anderson. This was the tour of a lifetime, and we’ll never forget it and love these folks like Monster-family.

To celebrate these heroes, here is one of the opening tracks from “This Is An Adventure,” a song called “Save Our Superheroes.” https://open.spotify.com/track/7jCaahuzE2NLj9hjnxHkSP “Save Our Superheroes” was created just before the cinematic boom of Marvel Movies, so it’s safe to say that it worked. In truth, it is quietly dedicated to comics writer Grant Morrison, but in a broader sense it is a song about the role of the reader and participant in bringing our heroes to life. It’s also deeply collaborative in a way that felt like the band had truly found its voice at the time. And, it’s just darned fun.

Stay safe out there, superheroes.

Hello Team, As we revel in our newfound easy-strea Hello Team,
As we revel in our newfound easy-streaming access to our album, “This Is An Adventure,” we’ll take a few deep dives across the album.

The first video we made for “This Is An Adventure,” was for the song “Go!” a love letter to one of our favorite places and spaces on Earth, the sparkling land of weird-o salvation known far and wide as Coney Island. We journeyed to this sacred seaside sanctuary just as we moved to Brooklyn, and Marty’s been moving closer and closer to the Wonder Wheel ever since.
https://youtu.be/QYzfTuJL5R8

Now it’s time for Uncle TriviaTime! * The song “Go!” is a cautious homage to the relentless and intoxicating life of the road – circus life, touring music, selling Swatches, all manners of vocation that require packing it all into a van – and the dangers of getting lost out there on the midway...
* The line from the song, “…cuz I’m lost on the midway…” is sung by our beloved founding monster, Perfect Jimmy, and is its own subtle salute to a band that we admire and are influenced by, The Residents, and their amazing interactive album, "Bad Day on the Midway.”
*The stars of this video are from Marty’s Sock Puppet Portraits, The Fabulous Flying Zambinis – Plim, Plom, and Zimmy – and the punk rock sideman, Sgt. Bullocks – all sock puppet legends in their own rightsfrom .

And so ends the questionably branded Uncle TriviaTime. This is the original SD post of the video onto Youtube from over ten years ago - it’s hard to decide if we should repost some of this stuff to try to get it looking a little better or preserve the record, as it were. Any thoughts?

Here’s just the song on Spotify:
https://open.spotify.com/track/4T4Ej1L0VbFlZq2WmC6Jfc

Anyhoo, long a staple in our live show, we still love to hear you yell “Go!”
Now, quite a few years later, we’re still ready to go!
